INTRACRANIAL TUMORS ASSOCIATED WITH PSYCHIATRIC SYMPTOMS

Abstract
|

|
Brain tumors are frequently assosciated with, and may occasionally even present a broad range of psychiatric and/or neuropsychological symptoms including changes of consciousness, affect, personality, and variant psychotic or neurotic phenomena, etc. But there is no mental picture entirely specific to cerebral tumor.
In general, psychiatric and behavioral symptoms due to relatively small, slow-growing, and less aggressive tumors are most likely to be misdiagnosed as being psychiatric in orgin, particularly when they occur in "silent" regions of brain, which do not give rise to focal neurological signs or symptoms.
Authors reported 2 cases of brain tumor assosciated with psychiatric symptoms, and re-viewed some literature about the issues of diagnosis and treatment for these patients.
